When Yanique contacted me about making a custom doll family resembling her family, I was immediately excited. I was well acquainted with the family's stylishness and gorgeousness from being an Instagram follower of Yanique's (@yan_o_gram). I mean, look at this sweet family. One challenge I had with the order: I only had one size of doll in this style, so I needed to make a smaller version for little Seth. I reduced my pattern down a bit I was able to make a slightly smaller version of the doll style. Then I was ecstatic when I found the colorful sweater to use for Seth's tiny version. I also found some really fun vintage buttons for Richard's tie tack and Yanique's earrings. And I was very pleased with the new vest design for Richard. I had a great time with the details on Yanique's doll. The vintage buttons for her earrings, her glasses, and I painted her little black shoes with tiny pink hearts. It was so fun getting to know Yanique through the process of creating these dolls for her. We have a lot in common: we both have one child, both boys. We both like printed shoes, and are proud glasses-wearers. And Yanique is a stay-at-home mom, too.
Yanique is working on a wonderful project, a resource book for her community to help parents find enriching activities and educational toys for their kids. Watch this blog for more information about this innovative project in the near future! And follow us both (@henandchick and @yan-o-gram) on Instagram!
