Decorating on a Dime

You might have noticed by now, but I am by no means a minimalist when it comes to decorating my home.

I love finding little trinkets all over: thrift shops, antique malls, flea markets, and souvenirs from trips. I look for colorful, folk-y, and nostalgic accents. And books. Always books.

In the picture above, the beautiful vintage Underwood typewriter was a gift from my sister Shannon. The little antique toy piano was my grandmother's childhood toy. The little dala horse is from the Swedish Cultural Center in my husband's hometown, Stanton, Iowa. The colorful children's book volumes were a lucky thrift store find, and the little flute playing statuette was a gift from a former flute student. But the rest you can pretty much bet are from thrift store adventures, which are frequent.

If I'm at a thrift store, chances are, so is Wendy. She's one of my best friends, as well as my thrift shopping good luck charm. It's thanks to her good thrifting vibes that my home is furnished with most of the good stuff it has. And she can possibly blame me for the same at her house.

Amen to that! There isn't a room in my house that isn't sporting a plethora of thrifted finds. We love unique things, and we love a good bargain.

I do have a hard time with clutter, though, so I've grown more selective over the years. My husband, however, can't resist anything cool. He's walking in the door with a handful of thrifted treasures as we speak... (no joke!)

Yes, clutter can become a problem. I have to thin things out from time to time, but then I donate the items back, and put them back in circulation! :) How fun that you and your husband both enjoy thrifting!
